Résumé :
This talk will focus on the research that explores the role of GABA neurotransmission as a potential therapeutic target for drug addiction. We aimed to investigate the genetic variants of GABA-related genes in methamphetamine (METH)-addicted patients and to determine the expression of GABA-related proteins in animal models of drug addiction induced by METH and dextromethorphan (DXM). The molecular mechanisms underlying therapeutic targets for drug addiction were also examined using proteomics. Our research has identified significant genetic polymorphisms in GABA-related genes
among METH-addicted patients and has demonstrated alterations in GABA receptors, transporters, and enzymes in animal models exposed to METH and DXM. Furthermore, the differentially expressed proteins from the proteomic analysis revealed that GABA supplements, including GABA and GABA-enriched pre-germinated brown rice (PGBR), can reverse the effect of DXM administration. Based on the findings from our studies, modulating GABA neurotransmission may offer a promising therapeutic strategy for treating drug addiction.
